Hand-Cut Dovetails (Co-ED) May 5th 10:00am-5:00pm

In this workshop we will tackle the classic and impressive dovetail joint. Commonly used in furniture making and fine woodworking, a corner made with dovetail joints is strong, functional, and beautiful. Using only hand saws and chisels, students will learn to cut dovetails and will practice by making a simple wooden box.

We will go through the process of marking out our dovetails, considering design choices and functionality. Time will be spent practicing the proper use of the Japanese pull-saw to cut and chisels to fine-tune our joinery. This is a mindful practice that requires focus and repetition, and our workshop will have a slow pace and celebrate the process of making.

This workshop would be best suited for folx with some previous woodworking experience, although experience with joinery or furniture is not required.
